Google Voice FAIL

Okay, so if you know me or even if we’ve passed on the same side of the street you know how much I love Google Voice. I talk about it all the time to nearly everyone I meet.
All the features, all the tools, it’s just brilliant. One of my favorite is the transcribing [...]

Death of PageRank Sculpting? nah…

It was my first SMX Advanced seminar in Seattle, WA and there was simply a ton of useful information given.  In fact I’m just taking the time to update my blog with a recap of my experience and what I found most useful and in some cases most annoying.
However, there was a huge debate when [...]

I just watched a video of Matt Cutts answering the question:
Is a website designed with a CSS-based layout more SEO friendly than a table based layout?
I was expecting Matt to say, yes in fact there are reasons CSS+XHTML works better for SEO.  He did not.  He basically said, use whatever works best for you. WOW.  [...]

That’s right people, spring cleaning might evoke memories from your childhood of shampooing carpets, cleaning out the garage, and all manner of horrible acts.  But those acts served a purpose then and still does today.
I want to take the opportunity to talk about really examining, I mean spending a good 4-5 hours going deep into [...]

Dash or Underscore in URLs?

Posted 04 April 2009 | By Mike | Categories: Google, On-Page Optimization, Organic Traffic | No Comments

The question is: within the URL of a webpage should you use a dash (-) or an underscore(_) to separate words?  For example: www.somesite.com/page-about-bagels.html VERSUS www.somesite.com/page_about_bagels.html
Like the Hi Definition format wars, we have an undisputed winner in the to dash or to underscore question.  There is no reason to use an underscore unless a searcher [...]

Number 1 with a (lack of) bang: CHROME
Wowey wow wow wow as Christopher Walken would say. There is a lot I love about Chrome. The first thing that stands out is the giant display size. Thanks to it’s ‘omnibar’ which combines pretty much 3 menubars into 1 you find yourself not staring [...]

Economy hits Google

Economy hits Google

Rumor has it Google has been laying off hundreds of ‘employees’ since August. I use the quotes because they technically were contractors and not actual employees, meaning the reason you haven’t heard about them is due to the loop hole of contractors being an ‘operational expense’.
The mystique surrounding Google as being this untouchable super-company [...]

Google’s SearchWiki
Well Google’s personal promotion service is back and this time we have a name for it: SearchWiki.
When you do a search you should see two new icons presented in the results next to the title. These icons allow you to personalize your search results by promoting or demoting results.

As you can see above, [...]

Comments from webmasters and SEOs alike are commenting on this month’s changes including some universal search changes.
Many folks are speculating on Google’s apparent shift of importance giving greater weight to H2 tags and even the meta description – both of which many folks ignore.
But this is all of course speculation, interesting and the H2 tag [...]
